Paracord FAQ – Everything You Need to Know

Welcome to the ForgedByFireUK Paracord FAQ!

Whether you're a survivalist, adventurer, gift buyer, or just love the style of paracord bracelets, you've probably got questions. This guide answers the most common ones — with real-world tips and honest answers straight from the source.

What is paracord?

Paracord, short for parachute cord, is a lightweight nylon rope originally used in military parachutes. It’s strong, flexible, and useful in thousands of survival and everyday situations.

What are paracord bracelets used for?

They’re not just for show! Paracord bracelets can be used for outdoor survival, tying gear, building shelters, tourniquets, and more. Many people also wear them as a fashion accessory or as meaningful handmade gifts.

Is paracord waterproof?

Yes — paracord is made from nylon, which is water-resistant. It won’t rot or weaken when wet. Just let it dry naturally after getting soaked.

How strong is paracord?

Standard 550 paracord can hold up to 550lbs (249kg) of static weight. It's strong enough for most tasks like securing gear, building shelter, or emergency fixes. You can either purchase 750 Paracord which can hold 750lbs!

What’s the difference between 550, 750, and micro paracord?

The number refers to the breaking strength. 550 is most common (7 inner strands), 750 is thicker and stronger, while micro paracord is much thinner and better for detail work.

Can I use a paracord bracelet in an emergency?

Absolutely. Unravel the bracelet to get several feet of cord — use it for tying, building, bandaging, or even fishing (if you know the trick with the inner strands). I have even used it as tinder to start a camp fire!

How do I clean my paracord bracelet?

Easy! Pop it in a sock, tie the end, and wash it with your regular clothes. Or scrub it gently with a toothbrush in soapy water. Allow dry naturally, but DO NOT put in the tumble dryer as this can cause shrinkage.

Are paracord bracelets adjustable?

Some are! At ForgedByFireUK, I make fixed-size and adjustable styles. Most have buckles or sliding knots. Always check the product description or ask before ordering.

How do I know what size to order?

Measure your wrist snugly with a tape measure or string, then add about 1/2 inch for comfort. If unsure, message me — I’m always happy to help!

Do you make custom designs?

Yes! I love custom work. Whether it’s a colour combo, a tribute piece, or something unique, just drop me a message and we’ll make it happen.
